‘Sherlock’ season 5: Amanda Abbington would be open to Mary return
Does it appear unlikely that Mary Watson would ever appear again on “Sherlock”? You can say that, largely for one simple reason: She’s dead. It’s hard to come back on the show when you’ve been killed off once before. Then again, if there was ever a show to be on if the main focus was to find ways to continually stay alive, this is probably it. They find it very difficult to keep people gone from the series forever; just look at Moriarty, who continues to pop up here and there despite the fact that he was killed off YEARS ago on the show.
We feel like we could do another article or two on whether or not “Sherlock” continuing to do this is a tremendous issue, but that is a different problem for a different day. Instead, let’s just go ahead and make it clear that if Amanda Abbington had it her way, she would be coming back on the series sooner rather than later. Just take a look to what she had to say recently to Greg James of Radio 1 in a new interview, specifically citing a conversation that she had with the man behind Moriarty in Andrew Scott:
“He said to me, you never leave … You never really leave Sherlock. And it’s true, because they always do flashbacks and stuff like that. So I’m hoping that at some point Mary will come back and do something else.”
Of course, we should really note that there is not exactly much of a guarantee out there at present that there is going to be a fourth season of “Sherlock” coming on the air. Just remember for a moment or two that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have around a million different things going on, and that may make it difficult for either one of them to lock into another batch of episodes. Once there is more news to report on that subject, we plan on letting you know here.
