‘NCIS: New Orleans’ season 3: LeVar Burton directing episode
One of the upcoming episodes for “NCIS: New Orleans” this season just got a little bit more exciting.
In a post on Twitter earlier tonight, legendary former “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star / “Reading Rainbow” host LeVar Burton confirmed that he just wrapped directing one of the upcoming season 3 episodes. There aren’t too many other details available at the moment, but we don’t have to know too much more to be excited about this.
There are a number of interesting connections between Burton and the show, starting with the fact that he previously directed Scott Bakula on a number of occasions during his run on “Star Trek: Enterprise” many years ago. As a matter of fact, LeVar has spent time in the director’s chair for every single iteration of the franchise since first appearing on “The Next Generation.” (Here’s to hoping that he gets to direct “Star Trek: Discovery” someday.) He also took on a behind-the-scenes role within the “NCIS” universe a rather long time ago, having directed an episode of “JAG,” otherwise known as the series that started the entire franchise.
Is it possible that we could see him in front of the camera for one of these roles? We know that we’d personally like to see it. The most recent live-action TV credit Burton had was appearing in the revival of “Roots,” and before that he was a series regular over on TNT’s “Perception.” (He also directed episodes of that show.) In concluding our LeVar history lesson (as you have probably figured out at this point, we’re a fan), he also has appeared on both “The Big Bang Theory” and “Community” in recent years as himself. The LeVar Burton – Troy Barnes relationship may be one of our favorite things in the history of pretty much ever.
“NCIS: New Orleans” will be taking a week off on January 31, and will be returning with new episodes on February 7. You can read our most-recent episode review by heading over to the link here.
