Before ‘Power’ season 4 premieres, re-watch these season 3 episodes
One of the things that we like to do here at CarterMatt is look ahead at what’s coming down the road, and also figure out some of the best episodes to watch / re-watch in order to be as prepared as humanly possible.
When it comes to “Power” on Starz, There are a lot of key episodes that got us to the point that we’re at now. Let’s assume that you’ve only got a few hours of free time before the season 4 premiere, and you gotta make the most of it. (Ideally, you’d obviously re-watch the whole season again.) What should you see? Or, let’s say that you want to watch season 4 live and you don’t have the time to check out the entire series. We’ve got three episodes that are not only fantastic television from the third season, but they encapsulate in so many ways what this show is ultimately about.
Episode 3×05, “Help Me” – This is the episode that changes Tommy forever, as he kills Holly in a rage after discovering precisely what she did in terms of putting a hit out on Ghost. In her mind, she thought she was doing the right thing for both her and Tommy since he didn’t have the stomach to do it; however, she underestimated how far Tommy at that time would go to save his friend. That sentiment on Tommy’s part did eventually change, but Ghost’s handling to the aftermath of Holly’s death is a big part of that. Tommy realized how loyal he was to him, and how that loyalty was not being properly reciprocated.
Episode 3×06, “The Right Decision” – In case you’re not catching our drift here, the middle of the third season was fantastic. We lost a core player the week before, and this is the episode where Tommy and Ghost teamed up to get Lobos out of the way one and for all. The ripple effect of this story was that it built another enormous layer of distrust between Ghost and Angela, which put in motion everything from the demise of their relationship to eventually her arresting him in the finale. Ghost may have felt the move was necessary for self-preservation, but in other ways he ended up dooming himself through his actions.
Also, Tommy may have felt more used than ever in this coming out of losing Holly the week before — even if he had a little support in the immediate aftermath.
Episode 3×10, “In My Best Interest” – Ghost is arrested. Greg is killed by Mike Sandoval. Angela is the arresting officer to Ghost. Kanan continues to sink his talons into Tariq. This is the episode where many stories emotionally came to a head, but what made this better than even your standard finale is that the writers didn’t feel a need to resolve any of these plots over the course of the episode. Many of them, including Kanan, are still up in the air moving into season 4. The problem for Ghost is that it’s going to be awfully hard for him to help anything as an inmate.
There is no announced premiere date for season 4 just yet; when we’ve got one, we’ll be sure to announce it for you here.
