Ratings: ‘This Is Us’ rises as ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ helps The CW’s Tuesdays; ‘Bull,’ ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ fall
Was the decision by The CW to move “Legends of Tomorrow” over to Tuesday night a smart one? While the jury still may be out on the long-term repercussions of the move, the early verdict is that this is a sweeping success.
Last night’s midseason premiere of the superhero show — in our opinion the best of any superhero show so far this week — ended up drawing in total a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This was more than double the recent performance of “No Tomorrow” on the network, and it seems to be a much better companion to “The Flash.” The one bit of irony here is that following this move, “The Flash” posted its lowest rating of the season in a 0.9. The show’s already been renewed, so there’s nothing to be worried about from that vantage point.
As for everywhere else…
CBS – With a 1.9 rating in the demo, “NCIS” continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. However, “Bull” (1.3) posted one of its lowest ratings to date, and that has us wondering that despite being CBS’ #2 drama in the demo, they may consider moving it for a potential second season. “NCIS: New Orleans” also fell down to a 1.1.
NBC – “The Wall” (1.6) is to us the surprise hit of the season, and it’s performing so much stronger than ever imagined that it would. Consider it the Chris Hardwick effect? Everything the man does seems to be turning into a hit.
Elsewhere on the night, “This Is Us” won with a 2.8 (up versus last week), while “Chicago Fire” continued to impress with a 1.7. Even if it is benefiting from a great lead-in, there’s still a heck of a lot to celebrate in here.
ABC – “Agents of SHIELD” was the only new program on the night, and despite having virtually no lead-in at all, it still somehow managed to score a 0.7 rating. That’s pretty remarkable, and it’s certainly worth noting that it actually improved without any help.
Fox – Finally, “New Girl” (0.9) and “The Mick” (1.0) led off a night that also included “Bones” improving up to a 0.9.
