‘Call the Midwife’ season 6, episode 1 spoilers: Charlotte Ritchie on Barbara, Tom

Tom and Barbara -

Where are things going to head when it comes to Barbara and Tom on the upcoming sixth season of “Call the Midwife“? The is premiering tomorrow on BBC One, and if there is one big thing to take away from the Christmas Special from a relationship standpoint, it was the engagement of Tom and Barbara. Isn’t that exciting?

Well, here’s the rub: Just because two characters are engaged does not mean that they are getting married. As a matter of fact, there is no guarantee that it will happen this season. Speaking on the subject to The Sun, here is what Charlotte Ritchie had to say on the subject:

“I don’t think the wedding is at the forefront of their minds … But that’s probably a good thing. I personally don’t understand the furore around weddings; I think they should be an excuse for a knees-up with your friends and that’s it. It’s all a bit of a song and dance, marriage. But this will be my first telly wedding – if it happens…”

Ultimately, we could see it happening by the time we get to the end of the season, but the reason why we don’t think there is much of a hurry for it is simply because of the fact that there are so many other issues that need to be taken on. There are always going to be patients that need to be cared for at Nonnatus House, and Barbara never really struck us as the sort of person who is going to prioritize a wedding over everything else going on in her life. While we do think that she does want to get married, this could be one of those times in which the wedding will come about spontaneously. Maybe they’ll find the right moment, and then try to figure out a way in which to make it happen from then.
