‘The Blacklist: Redemption’ spoilers: How the series will work
Tonight, there is a new episode of “The Blacklist” airing on NBC, but for the sake of the remainder of this article, we’re going to be focusing a little bit more on the spin-off series that we know is coming down the road next month in “The Blacklist: Redemption.”
The show’s cast and producers took part earlier this week in a panel at the TCA Winter Press Tour, and the big takeaway from it was that this show is not meant to be a carbon-copy of the original by any means. There are going to be some elements of commonality that exist between the two properties, but that has more to do with characters and being within the same universe. “Redemption” is more of a spy show, and it is more about these characters (in Ryan Eggold’s Tom Keen and Famke Janssen’s Scottie Hargrave) attempting to do good and help the world rather than detract from it.
Of course, one of the biggest complications that could go along with that is the fact that Scottie is unaware of the fact that Tom is her son, and over the course of the eight-episode first season, expect to see this relationship develop and establish some further twists and turns. They’ll be figuring out this dynamic more and more over time, and Tom will continue to work on having a foot in both this show and the original series. Don’t view him leaving for “Redemption” as a sign that his relationship with Liz or his child Agnes is coming to a close. We could be seeing the seeds being planted for this show right now on “The Blacklist” proper, as Tom struggles with being a stay-at-home dad, giving up much of the world that he knew before getting back with Liz and the two parties welcoming a child.
We’ll see where this story goes, but we know that it is being developed as something that viewers can enjoy even if they are not familiar with “The Blacklist” itself. As for whether or not that’ll happen, given the show’s title and strong affiliation with the original, that remains to be seen. The ratings for the original show are not exactly fantastic right now, so it needs to have a devoted audience of many of them if it hopes to stick around.

No interest at all. I watch Blacklist for Liz and Tom together.
