‘Scandal’ season 6 to have digital only offshoot in ‘Gladiator: Wanted,’ premiering today
In just one week’s time, you’re going to have a chance in order to see the latest episode of “Scandal” air on ABC — luckily, you don’t have to wait that long to be thrown back into the universe in some shape or form.
ABC announced today that they are getting set to launch a digital offshoot entitled “Gladiator: Wanted,” one that is going to run online through the network’s website over the course of the next several weeks and will show you what the process is like trying to intern for Olivia Pope and Associates. Series cast member Darby Stanchfield (Abby) is responsible for directing all of these installments (per The Hollywood Reporter).
Is this a great idea? We’d argue so, mostly because we always feel like the more of a good thing that you can offer someone, the better off you’re going to be as a show. This is a great little opportunity for diehard fans to dive even more into the series than they already are, and it gives you something more to watch per week.
Our big caveat in making this statement is that this is the sort of thing that should be a welcome addition to the series, but at the same exact time, it shouldn’t be necessary. Maybe you have a few Easter eggs in the future on the show for people who check out the web series, but you have to walk a fine line where the standard “Scandal” viewers who don’t check anything else out can still feel like they understand what is going on all of the time. It’s a delicate balancing act between trying to keep your longtime fans happy along with those who casually watch the show and aren’t all that aware of everything that is going on with it online. After all, there are many people who fall into that group.
