‘Madam Secretary’ season 3, episode 13 preview: Could Elizabeth win a Nobel Prize?
Before we step in and start discussing further the next new episode of “Madam Secretary” story-wise, let’s stop in for a moment and talk things in terms of the schedule. There is no new episode airing on CBS next week, and there’s a pretty simple reason for that: The NFL Playoffs. Why in the world would you want the show to air against that? It would be ratings suicide for the show to go up against that.
When the series does return, it will be come Sunday, January 29 with an episode entitled “The Beautiful Game.” Based on much of the information that we’ve got on the subject now, you’re going to get some very bad news for one Elizabeth McCord — but also some rather great news to go along with it:
Synopsis – “When an influential rabbi organizing a symbolic Iran/Israel soccer game is killed, Elizabeth and Jay’s peace treaty plans for the two countries are jeopardized. Also, Elizabeth’s name is floated for a Nobel Peace Prize; Jay’s tireless work on the Iran/Israel peace deal strains his marriage; and Daisy makes a connection with new work colleague, Kevin Park (Justin Baldoni).”
Who wouldn’t want to be considered for a Nobel Prize? We imagine that the only time in which you wouldn’t want it is if you felt really horrible about some of the work you’ve done and didn’t feel all that great about it. We just hope that by the time we make it to the end of the episode, we get a little bit more information on this — even though it’s hard to imagine her getting it in season. A Nobel Peace Prize feels a little bit more like the sort of story that the writers would bring in once they got around to a fourth or fifth season and there was an indication the show was ending. At that point, it’s almost like the prize is a thank-you to the character for all of their great work.
As for the state of Iran and Israel, let’s just say this could prove to be enough of a point of stress that it is impossible for Elizabeth to even focus on something great like a Nobel Prize. This is a struggle, and it may be one that never goes away completely.
