Ratings: ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Last Man Standing’ tie for #1 while ‘Sleepy Hollow’ holds firm, ‘Rosewood’ improves
The ratings from Friday night’s new television lineup are officially in, and the biggest takeaway is that compared to the week before, there really wasn’t nearly as much to write home about when it comes to good news. The majority of the shows from last night were either down, or even from where they were previously.
There is one notable exception, so hats off to “Rosewood”! We’re not sure that improving to a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic is going to get them renewed for another season, but at the same time, it seems wrong to take away from something that is as positive as a ratings boost.
CBS – “Blue Bloods” managed to tie for #1 on the night with a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and if that wasn’t enough, it also won straight-out in total viewers. This is a show averaging more than 10 million viewers Friday nights at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, and it has one of the most consistent audiences in the business.
Meanwhile, “Hawaii Five-0” and “MacGyver” each slipped slightly on their way down to a 1.1 rating, which is still solid for the two of them.
NBC – In its second episode, “Emerald City” slipped to a 0.8 rating. That’s about the sort of drop we expected, and it’s still something the show can work with; now that we’ve said that, if it starts to go down to a 0.7 or 0.6 in the next two weeks, then it’ll start to be clear that this is not a hit for NBC. Not exactly what we expected since this show comes from very popular source material.
“Grimm,” meanwhile, also slipped to a 0.8.
Fox – We already discussed “Rosewood,” and for “Sleepy Hollow,” the show stayed steady around a 0.6. We’d say that this rating just won’t cut it, but we also thought that Fox was going to cancel the show after season 3. Anything’s possible in the realm of headless horsemen.
ABC – “Last Man Standing” is the surprise comeback story of the year, as syndication has really caused the show to blossom. It managed to tie “Blue Bloods” for #1 in the demo, and the same goes for “Shark Tank.” Also on the night, “Dr. Ken” posted a 0.9, and the one concerning thing is that you have people tuning out for this show, and then tuning back in for “Shark Tank.” You ideally want them to watch throughout.
