‘MacGyver’ spoilers: Meet the new boss!
Before you respond to the title, let’s go ahead and get the obligatory reference to The Who straight out of the way: She’s not the same as the old boss.
At the end of this past episode of “MacGyver,” we had one of the more stunning reveals of the entire series in that Thornton (Sandrine Holt), the supposed leader of the title character’s whole team and a longtime confidante, was actually working against them, serving as a resource to the evil Organization and being one of the most powerful moles out there. It took a wide array of teamwork, including some clues from Nikki and even Murdoc of all people, to help identify her as the person the team was really after all along. A very powerful twist that we really enjoyed.
CBS confirmed on Wednesday that Meredith Eaton (“Boston Legal”) has been cast in the series-regular role of Matty Webber, who is the new director at the Phoenix Foundation where much of the team’s work is done. While there is not too much known about her character at present in terms of personality traits, here’s to hoping that she is slightly less sinister than Thornton turned out to be. She’ll show up for the first time on Friday night’s new episode “Large Blade,” but we’re not sure how much time the team is going to have to spend getting to know her given the fact that Mac and Jack are going to find themselves stuck overseas trying to both save a pilot and stop a very bad man. There’ll be quite a bit going on, suffice it to say.
In some ways, you can argue that last week’s episode concluded an arc, and now we’re kicking off with something new. It’s not clear when either Nikki or Murdoc will be returning, though in the case of the latter, all signs point towards seeing him on at least one more occasion this season (at least that’s our hope since we are huge Murdoc fans).

Gag. Hate this new actress that replaced Sandrine. She is horrible for this part. Bring Sandrine back and dump Eaton. This move has taken all the joy out of this show for me.
