‘Today Show’ video: Jenna Bush Hager apologizes for ‘Hidden Figures’ – ‘Hidden Fences’ Golden Globes error
One of the more unfortunate moments of the Golden Globes last night for many actually occurred during the pre-show on Monday, as we saw one of the hosts in Jenna Bush Hager slip up during her interview with Pharrell Williams. The singer and recent coach from “The Voice” was there for his movie “Hidden Figures,” but during her interview with him she referred to it as “Hidden Fences.” There was a separate entry on the night in “Fences,” so it was clear as to how the mix-up in her mind occurred.
Given that we are ultimately in the social-media age, Hager making a mistake more or less led to a cavalcade of criticism coming her way. It’s something that she addressed on Monday morning’s edition of “The Today Show,” where she did her best in order to offer up an apology for some of her remarks, while also reminding everyone that they were not intentional:
“If I offended people, I am deeply sorry … What I didn’t want to do is make anyone feel lesser than who they are. It was a mistake and I hope we can all move on.”
You can see Hager speak out about the incident HERE. One other thing that should be noted here is fellow co-host Al Roker coming to her defense, saying that this is live television and sometimes, mistakes do happen. You just have to recover from it.
What his video does is effectively show Hager owning up to her mistake and moving forward, and hopefully everyone else will also be able to now, moving forward. It’s embarrassing for her, but at least she didn’t try to ignore it. What’s in particular interesting is that this was not the only time someone referred to “Hidden Figures” as “Hidden Fences” over the course of the night; we’re not sure why everyone was so tripped-up over this, but then had no problem with “The Night Manager” vs. “The Night Of” or “American Crime” vs. “American Crime Story.”
Do you think that Hager handled this the correct way? Let us know in the attached comments.
