Ratings: ‘Last Man Standing,’ ‘Shark Tank’ surge; ‘Emerald City’ has so-so start; ‘Sleepy Hollow’ low
There were a number of interesting ratings notes to come out of Friday night’s television lineup, but one of the biggest ones may very well be the continued surge of “Last Man Standing,” a show that many critics wrote off years ago and one that seemed to exist on its own island.
Last night, the show drew a season-high 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which also was #1 for the night. So far this season, the show’s averaging a 1.2 rating, so even if this adjusts down due to a preemption somewhere, it still should be at the very least above what its average was for the night. The show’s being helped in part by syndication, and also because Friday nights in January tend to see better ratings than most other times of the year. Just look at “Shark Tank,” which also drew some of its best ratings of the season with a 1.4.
As for some of the other networks on the night.
CBS – While there were no season highs, the Eye is probably rather happy with their performance last night. “MacGyver” (1.2), “Hawaii Five-0” (1.2), and “Blue Bloods” (1.3) all generated better numbers than their most-recent episodes before Christmas. In turn, we think that all of them are likely to be returning for another season on the air.
NBC – For the premiere of its final season, “Grimm” drew a 0.9 rating — while this is down versus the season 5 premiere, this is around where most of the episodes fell when the show was on the air last time. Meanwhile, “Emerald City” drew a 1.1 and 1.0 rating for its first two episodes — not a bad performance, but some may have assumed that it would have been higher given that it was trending worldwide on Twitter for most of the night.
Fox – Two return of “Rosewood” was certainly low with a 0.6 rating — as was the return of “Sleepy Hollow” with a similar rating. Clearly, there are some people out there not altogether interested in giving this new iteration of the show much of a chance.
CW – A double-dose of new “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” episodes drew a 0.2 rating, and we continued to be nervous over the show’s future.

I watched the first 20 minutes of Emerald City but it was just too crazy for me.
