‘Scandal’ season 6 photo: First look at Olivia Pope and Fitz!

It feels like you’ve waited long enough for the return of “Scandal” to TV — luckily, Thursday, January 19 is right around the corner. That’s your chance to see Kerry Washington and company back on your TV screen, and it’s going to be dramatic and then some based on some of the early details.

Is a picture worth a thousand words? That may depend on who you are and what characters you root for, but we do think that the one above is, at the very least, worth many. This is your first look at Olivia Pope in the new season, as she is having some sort of important conversation with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). Is he the President at the time of this picture? That’s possible, even if it is of the lame duck variety. Early information that has been released for season 6 suggests that early on this season that the Presidential Election is going to be resolved, and we will be looking at either Mellie Grant or Vargas in the White House. We’re fully #TeamMellie on this one, just from the vantage point of the sort of drama that it could bring to the table.

If she does end up in charge, can you image all of the ways that the dynamics around her shift? We could theoretically see several different characters in different places than what we’re accustomed to with this show.

One thing that seemingly won’t change is that no matter what, Olivia and Fitz do seem to be always drawn to each other in some way. Even when they are not together romantically, they cannot seem to escape one another’s orbit. We imagine that this will be a continued trend for season 6, but also that many people out there who ‘ship this couple really would not have it any other way.
