‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 4: Is Gina dead?

The fourth season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” to date has contained many a funny episode, but we have to say that for the most part, we have not spent a heck of a lot of time pondering over cliffhangers. It’s really not that kind of show.

However, Sunday night’s new episode — which fittingly, is the last one before a lengthy hiatus — ended with one of the biggest cliffhangers to date. Gina was hit by a bus. She stopped for whatever reason to read Charles’ incoming text, and in a bit of irony given her comments on his said text, she was struck. Even though it’s terrible, there is always something about getting hit by a bus on a comedy that has some odd comedic undertones.

Is Gina actually dead, and is Chelsea Peretti leaving the show? Obviously, the writers and producers for the show want you to think it’s possible. Maybe it is, given that if you’re dead, isn’t this one of the best ways that you can possibly go out? We’d say so, but there is often a whole lot of fun that can come out of seeing Gina in recovery from something like this and trying to get back into tip-top shape. It’d be remarkably funny material, and it would give Peretti a completely different story to try and take on.

Our feeling for now is that she’ll pull through, mostly because the last thing we need is a death, even a fictional one, to kick off 2017. This is the year where we’re supposed to take a deep breath and remind ourselves that all is going to be okay! (Or, this is at least the happy place that we want to spend the next few days in before it all goes to hell in a hand-basket.)

There is more of this season’s story to tell, so when the show gets back on the air in the spring, we’ll have some further news for you then.
