‘New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly’ lineup: Blake Shelton, Pentatonix, Jennifer Lopez, and more performing

While NBC has always been the little brother to ABC in terms of their New Year’s Eve TV programming, we will at the very least given them a little bit of credit for trying. They are airing tonight their annual edition of “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly,” which is in total a much shorter affair than what Ryan Seacrest and company are doing over at ABC with their annual “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” broadcast.

This special is slated to start tonight at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time, so it’s really just the perfect compliment for those of you who are looking to specifically have something to watch while you’re counting down the final minutes and many of your friends are drunk to oblivion already. There are also a few notable performances, with many of them having NBC connections in some shape or form. You’ve got Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton of “The Voice” stopping by, while at the same exact time Jennifer Lopez of the upcoming NBC show “World of Dance” will be taking the stage in some capacity.

Finally, you’re going to get a chance to see Pentatonix, one of the best groups out there and one with an NBC connection that not everyone may remember — they won arguably the greatest season of “The Sing-Off,” a show that was really fun even if it had a hard time appealing to a large audience.

All in all, this is a very good lineup for the amount of time that NBC has for the show, which is only about an hour. One thing that is smart on their part is that they are catering to the full 18-49 crowd with this group; as someone in their early thirties, we looked at the “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” lineup and realized that there are some people on there that we’ve never even heard of before now.
