‘The X-Files’ season 11: When could Fox announce future of Gillian Anderson – David Duchovny series?
Wouldn’t it be nice if Fox were to give us the gift of an “X-Files” renewal this holiday season? We certainly do, especially since it’s been a rather long time since there was any significant movement made on the subject.
However, with that being said we do feel reasonably doubtful such a thing will happen this year. It’s Christmas Eve, after all, and the majority of people who work for the network are at this point likely off and enjoying some time with their families. Other than goodwill, they also realize that there is really is not anything that they can necessarily gain from announcing the renewal now — many people are off of work already, so the press footprint may not be enormous as it could be otherwise.
The next date we’re potentially targeting here as a possible renewal is around January 24, given that this would mark the one-year anniversary of the six-episode tenth season premiering. We’re honestly surprised about what the potential holdup on a renewal could be at the moment — even if the reviews for season 10 were mixed, the ratings were strong and the enthusiasm is still there. If there’s a suggestion that we would make, it’s for creator Chris Carter to take a little more of a backseat at times and let some other “X-Files” alum (and maybe a new writer or two) try out some concepts.
We’re also assuming that the cast would still want to talk part, as well — they’ve shown indications that they would, and scheduling could be the key to working this out. Given that David Duchovny’s “Aquarius” is over and Gillian Anderson no longer has “The Fall” or “Hannibal” (for now), we would hope that this would also be an easier process to schedule.
While it’s not the latest time in which we could see a renewal, we would legitimately be shocked if the show’s future fate is not revealed by May. This is when Fox has its upfronts, and given that we think the show is perfect for a January 2018 return, we would think there would be some discussion about it then.
Once there is some further news on “The X-Files” to report, we will have it for you over at the link here. Stay tuned! (Photo: Fox.)

Anderson is filming a movie in the spring and launches her new book in March. She’ll also probably be doing PR for American Gods and Viceroy’s House. And she lives in London with two young sons who she shares custody.
Her busy schedule is obviously the hold up. They sure aren’t waiting for Carter’s schedule to open up. (Totally agree on a lesser writing role for him). And Duchovny is spending his time playing club gigs and recording a new album. Pretty flexible schedule it seems.
If nothing else, Anderson is proving why offering her half Duchovny’s pay last time was a boneheaded and insulting move. No Anderson. No X-Files.

Well rumor has it there’s (potentially) another reason why negotiations fell through and it has nothing to do with pay (or schedule, but schedule is always a problem with Anderson)…
