Golden Globes 2017 promo: Jimmy Fallon prepares for the celebration
The 2017 Golden Globes are going to be airing on NBC come Sunday, January 8, and it feels clear to say that the show this year is going to have a very distinct feel from any that came before it. After all, this time around there will be an appearance from Jimmy Fallon as host, someone who could not be more different from frequent show emcee Ricky Gervais if he tried.
The perfect example of this comes courtesy of the video below, where you can see Fallon speak enthusiastically about his love for the Globes, and why he is so excited to host it because he considers it roughly to be a big Hollywood party where everyone is loose and having fun. We do agree with that to a certain extent, or at least how much Hollywood allows itself to have fun when there are so many nerves about possible winners in the room.
One other thing that we do imagine from the Globes this year is that we could easily see the show this year becoming rather political, given its proximity to Inauguration Day and also the sentiment from many in the celebrity world towards President-elect Donald Trump. Therefore, we imagine that this is going to be a very interesting night, given that the show is going to have to figure out some interesting things in terms of its tone. It will likely have to bounce around in between being relatively fun and lighthearted, and then occasionally tackling these notes that are far more serious depending on what the winners want to do.
Fallon did a great job hosting the Emmys, so we’re sure he will do the same here. To us, there is a certain sort of glee that does come from watching Ricky, only because of the fact that he does give the show this unique, edgy, and biting identity. Not everyone may like it, but it does make the Globes stand out more than any other awards show out there.
