‘Superior Donuts’: Jermaine Fowler comedy receives special premiere behind ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Could Judd Hirsch star in another hit TV series at the age of 81? We’re about to find out as the former “Taxi” alum is set to star alongside the super-funny Jermaine Fowler for the upcoming CBS comedy “Superior Donuts.”
For a long time, the premiere date for this show was somewhat of a mystery — but we’re now finding out, and CBS is doing what they can to give this show the best launch possible. You’ll get a chance to see the show receive a special premiere on Thursday, February 2 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time, following a new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” — otherwise known as the best timeslot that CBS has to offer anyone. Following that, the show moves over to its normal timeslot on Monday, February 6 at 9:00. This is after the conclusion of “The Odd Couple,” and the show will shift “2 Broke Girls” back to a new time at 9:30.
If you haven’t heard a whole lot about the show just yet, the synopsis below is worth checking out — and the same thing goes for the super-impressive cast that includes a couple of other familiar faces:
“SUPERIOR DONUTS follows the relationship between the gruff owner (Hirsch) of a small donut shop, his enterprising new young employee (Fowler) and their loyal patrons, in a quickly gentrifying Chicago neighborhood. Based on the play by Tracy Letts, the comedy also stars Katey Sagal, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans and Rell Battle. Bob Daily, Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan, Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg, Josh Lieberman and Jermaine Fowler are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.”
How can you not be intrigued by a show with both Hirsch and Sagal in the cast? While the play is out there for those who saw it, much of what is interesting about this show is that there really hasn’t been a lot about the show out there yet. Its development was a little different than your standard series, and that is a big part of the reason why.
