‘Ink Master’ season 8 finale sets record for female viewers; ‘Ink Master: Redemption’ renewed
While there may not be any more of “Ink Master” on the air for Spike the remainder of this year, there is some other good news that we can still report: The finale last week managed to set some new viewership records.
Per a new press release on Tuesday, the finale drew a 57% female audience, which is the largest in the history of the entire franchise. This episode marked the first time that a woman in Ryan Ashley Malarkey ended up winning the series, but it’s probably unfair to classify that as the sole reason for the viewership bump, given that no one knew that going on. However, that sentiment may have still been there given that two of the final three were women, which is also a first for the franchise.
Speaking about this news, Spike’s Executive Vice President, Original Series Sharon Levy had the following to say:
“I’m so proud that after eight seasons’ we finally have our first female winner of Ink Master … The show continues to keep fans on the edge of their seats and remains a major ratings driver for the network, especially with women. I can’t wait to see what twists the series brings next season.”
In addition to the news on the finale ratings, the network also confirmed that they have renewed the spin-off series “Ink Master: Redemption” for a fourth season consisting of ten episodes. These installments are going to air at some point in 2017 alongside new episodes of “Ink Master” season 9. There still is no news regarding a premiere date for the show, but we hope to dive in further to when the show could start, and what some of the twists and themes for the show could be, in the reasonably near future. For the time being, let’s just say that it would be a thrill to see a season that was more back to basics, and focused more on the structure of what made this show good in the first place.
