‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 won’t show Bernadette birth scene

While “The Big Bang Theory” has a number of iconic moments that they’ve showed off over the years, there is one that they are not even going to attempt: Seeing Bernadette welcome her first child with Howard Wolowitz. While we know that the character (pictured above with Jim Parsons’ Sheldon) will give birth in Thursday night’s new episode, you’re not going to see the scene in the hospital.

What’s the reason for that? As executive producer Steven Molaro notes to TVLine, one of the big reasons may just be that the show didn’t necessarily have a new or creative take on the idea — which is a pretty good reason to not go through with sharing it. (After all, why show something unless you really feel like it’s going to add something new to the medium?)

Here’s specifically what Molaro had to say about what the episode will focus on:

“[Watching someone give birth is] an arena that has been covered fairly well on many shows over the years … [We want to focus more on] what goes on before we get down to, ‘Let’s push the baby out.’”

We don’t necessarily have any big expectations for the episode beyond of course that it’s funny, and it marks the culmination of everything that Howard and Bernadette have been through in their relationship. It’s an opportunity for the two of them to reflect on where they’ve been, and look towards their future as parents. While we don’t necessarily think that the show will make any overarching changes to the characters, it should be interesting seeing precisely how they adjust to having these new priorities and how they make time for their friends. This is always the hardest in the beginning, since their entire world is flipped upside-down and it is so difficult to make sense of the surrounding world.
