Critics’ Choice Awards 2016: ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘BoJack Horseman,’ Evan Rachel Wood among TV winners
Tonight, the Critics’ Choice Awards are airing on A&E, and in preparation for what we imagine will be a very busy awards season in between this show, the Golden Globes, and the SAG Awards later, we’re going to be back throughout the night to give you a few more updates on all of the winners, plus some acceptance speeches and reactions.
First and foremost, who wants to comment on T.J. Miller so deftly avoiding the news about his arrest earlier this week? Anyhow, onto the winners!
Supporting Actress, Comedy – Jane Krakowski, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” Hard to argue with this one, given how continually funny we find Jane through and through on this show. Shame that she wasn’t there to accept.
Supporting Actor, Comedy – Louie Anderson, “Baskets.” Incredibly predictable given that he has swept much of the awards in this category since the show first came out. Still, he was amazing in the part and we’re so thrilled to see him back in the spotlight.
Actor in a Miniseries / TV Movie – Courtney B. Vance, “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” Ultimately, it was hard to imagine any other winner for this category, given that Vance completely captured Johnnie Cochran in a way we never thought possible.
Actress in a Miniseries / TV Movie – Sarah Paulson, “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” You can echo everything that we said above, given that these two arguably had the best performances of the entire year.
Supporting Actress, Drama – Thandie Newton, “Westworld.” We expect this to be a recurring theme throughout the rest of the year given the timing of it all. (She wasn’t there to accept.)
Supporting Actor, Drama – John Lithgow, “The Crown.” We’d watch a show just for John Lithgow, so we’re happy to see him win for anything.
Actor, Comedy Series – Donald Glover, “Atlanta.” Given the tremendous year he had on the FX comedy, we’re happy to see it and hope that this is a tradition that continues.
Actress, Comedy Series – Kate McKinnon, “Saturday Night Live.” While Kate’s certainly been deserving for many years now, we’d argue that this may have been her finest overall year to date.
Limited Series – “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.” ALL THE AWARDS!
Actress, Drama Series – Evan Rachel Wood, “Westworld.” See what we said about a theme?
Animated Series – Hooray for “BoJack Horseman”!! One of the best shows on TV that doesn’t get the love it deserves.
Reality Competition Series – “The Voice” (NBC). We don’t agree, but they’re going to do whatever they want at this point.
Actor, Drama Series – Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul.” Hey, an upset! Didn’t see this one coming.
Drama Series – “Game of Thrones.” Despite all of the change that was going on within the world of TV drama this year, HBO’s epic still reigned supreme.
Comedy Series – “Silicon Valley.” Hey, host TJ Miller still has something to be excited about!
