‘The X Factor’ UK results: Was 5 After Midnight, Saara Aalto, or Matt Terry eliminated before top 2?
Tonight’s lengthy “X Factor” show concluded with the results that would determine the top two for the season, and one of the exciting things about this was that there was no clear frontrunner among the bunch. 5 After Midnight, Saara Aalto, and Matt Terry have all led the public vote from the beginning of the live shows, and while oddsmakers favored Saara going into the show, they’ve been wrong before.
Based on what we saw tonight — and the placement of the finalists — our gut told us that 5 After Midnight would be the act who misses out on the final two. That is a shame, given that we do think that they’ve got some potential in the real world. Hey, they can just remember that One Direction finished in third on their own season, right? Doesn’t that always serve as a nice reminder that anything is possible?
In the end this time, our predictions were correct — the band finished in third, which means that we’ve got a Saara vs. Matt showdown in the final on Sunday. This one should be interesting, and it is to a certain degree unpredictable given that the 5 After Midnight fans will have to cast their votes somewhere else if they want to continue to be a part of the process.
At the moment, we’d say that Matt probably is in the best position going into the final given that he’s the sort of artist who does often win this show, and we probably can see more of the 5 After Midnight fans gravitating towards him more so than Saara. With that, we don’t think finishing first or second really matters much in terms of having a longterm career; for example, Fleur East has made more of a name for herself since the show than Ben Haenow, and Olly Murs didn’t win his own season, either.
