Will there be a ‘Big Brother: Over the Top’ season 2? We speculate

Over the Top -

CBS took a big risk on “Big Brother: Over the Top.” After all, they created a whole new experience for fans of the show on a completely new platform, and there was really no way of knowing whether or not this was something that the majority of viewers out there would be willing to pay monthly in order to watch.

Even now, it is fairly hard to determine as to whether or not this season was really a successful for CBS given that there are signs in both directions with it. There are at times we’ve felt that this experiment was a success and then some, and then other moments where we wondered if it was working at all.

Positive – You got a video that went viral courtesy of the houseguests reacting to the Presidential Election.

Positive – You had quite possibly the most socially-active viewership ever, even if much of it was spent arguing over the pettiest things imaginable.

Positive – You skimped out on competitions, and other than the prize money, paying the producers / crew, and the stipends for the cast, this show was incredibly cheap to make. You didn’t even renovate the entire house!

Negative – You couldn’t even get returning houseguests to make cameo appearances for a Halloween party.

Negative – There were constant controversies about the rules in certain situations — while it may have generated a lot of discussion now, there’s no guarantee that these people are going to come back.

Negative – The full episodes have been a major letdown given that we don’t know anyone who’s really watching them given that they’re basically the nightly recaps stretched out into some other form.

If this was traditional television, we’d have a better sense as to how the show is doing, but unfortunately we don’t. For now, we feel fairly confident that the show is going to come back just because the set is already there, people are always going to be willing to play, and this is one of the most passionate fan followings that CBS has for any show. Plus, they also need an anchor to help introduce other All Access programming given how for now they really don’t have much else planned beyond the new “Star Trek” and a “Good Wife” spin-off.

For the record, who wins the show will have ZERO impact on what CBS wants to do. Kryssie could win and they’d still bring it back.

We’ll have an update for you on this if we hear of one, but for now, let us know in the poll below if you’d be down for another “Big Brother OTT” season. Also, be sure to check out some more updates all about “Big Brother OTT.”
