‘Pure Genius’ season 1 will only last 13 episodes; still in contention for renewal
For those hoping that there would be a little bit of “Pure Genius” on the air over at CBS until May, we come bearing some rather-bad news: It doesn’t quite look as though there is going to be a whole lot more of the series coming up.
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, the network is deciding against ordering any additional installments beyond the ones that were initially aired. What’s the reason for that? Much of that does seem to do with the lower ratings for the Dermot Mulroney series to date, but we also figure scheduling is a factor here. There are not many open spots for midseason shows to pop up on the CBS schedule, so it may be with that in mind that the network made this decision — potentially even before “Pure Genius” aired. They may have just kept a contingency plan in place just in case the show managed to premiere to bigger-than-expected ratings.
While this announcement is out there, this is not confirmation by any means that the show is getting canceled. There’s still a perfectly good opportunity to see it get renewed in the event that the right factors come into play, such as the season closes really strong in the numbers or some of the other new shows start to fall.
We’ll be rooting for “Pure Genius” just from the vantage point of seeing what it’s capable of doing the rest of the season. Also, we like the cast of the show and know that they’ve got the talent to pull off any story.
