‘The X Factor’ UK: What Honey G, Ryan Lawrie, Saara Aalto are singing for Movie Week

The latest news -Fans of “The X Factor,” be prepare to either celebrate or let out the world’s longest groan: Movie Week is here! We won’t mince words here in saying that we hate the theme and always have: It doesn’t really serve as much of a theme at all, given that it’s easy to take a popular song that was on a movie’s soundtrack and claim it for your own, even if said song is not even remotely memorable for being in a film.

If there is one compliment we can hand down to some of the song choices below, it’s this: At least none of them have been overly used and exploited like some other tracks that are out there. Nobody is performing anything from “The Bodyguard,” for example.

Matt Terry: Writing’s on The Wall – Sam Smith (Spectre) – Bond themes are typically good picks other than “Skyfall,” which is a little overplayed at this point. This is a song for Matt to soul off a lot of soul, and that could go a long way with him.

Ryan Lawrie: Jailhouse Rock – Elvis Presley (Jailhouse Rock) – Maybe Ryan’s looking at this as a chance to show a little bit of a rockabilly side, and we’d be okay with that if he can find some ways to mix up the arrangement somewhat. He doesn’t have the big voice of some other contestants, but maybe he’ll make up for it in the performance.

Emily Middlemas: It Must Have Been Love – Roxette (Pretty Woman) – We don’t really remember this song for “Pretty Woman,” but it’s a wonderful one. What we wonder is if we’re going to see something akin to the original version (we do know Emily is wanting to do a more uptempo song), or a slow, stripped-down arrangement like we saw from Drew on the U.S. version of the show many years ago.

Honey G: It’s Like That / Getting Jiggy With It – Jason Nevins / Will Smith (Keith Lemon The Movie / Last Days of Disco) – At least it’s a clever arrangement. Our problem is that the lyrics are probably just going to involve Honey G saying her name a billion times. If she was showing more artistry, we wouldn’t mind her being there as much.

Saara Aalto: My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion (Titanic) – Remember when Reggie ‘N Bollie pretended last year like they were going to do this song? We’ve got all the respect in the world to Saara for trying it, given that this track is a BEAST. She can pull it off, but one wrong note will be really exposed.

5 After Midnight: Try a Little Tenderness – Otis Redding (The Commitments) – Great song. With that said, we don’t even remotely remember this as a movie song.
