‘NCIS’ season 14, episode 7 review: Tony DiNozzo’s apartment up for grabs, murder witness faces immigration issues
The “NCIS” episode on Tuesday night was ripped straight out of today’s newspaper headlines. As America faces challenges of immigration, so did Agent Gibbs and his team as they worked on a case involving a dead navy officer shot at a convenience store. The murder was solved by the NCIS team, but what couldn’t be immediately resolved was that the witness was going to be sent back to Mexico due to his undocumented status.
NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres and Probationary Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop were tasked to pick up the witness before he was expected to surrender to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Taking their time to get back to the office, the two agents stopped by the witness’ childhood home to see his mother and enjoy a few moments before heading back.
Questioning why the serviceman, who fought for America, was being sent back to Mexico since he had been in the USA since a baby, Agent Gibbs stepped in to help. Before releasing him into the immigration services custody, Gibbs found the man an attorney to help him stay in the country he loved.
While the case had priority, Gibbs’ team were all eyeing Tony DiNozzo’s apartment. All the furniture was removed except for a tank full of goldfish, and it was Tony DiNozzo Sr. (played by Robert Wagner) who was bribed by all the agents in the NCIS office for the space. Befuddled by all the attention of the popular space, the agents did what they could to get Tony DiNozzo Sr. to offer them an opportunity to live there. In the end DiNozzo decided to draw a name out of the hat and offered the apartment to Agent Torres.
The storyline of Tony’s former apartment didn’t end there. After considering his options, Torres decided he wasn’t ready to settle down yet. He, in turn, gave the apartment to Agent McGee. Fans expect this will be the new home of Agent Timothy McGee and his wife-to-be Delilah Fielding.
This week the emotional story of illegal immigration and the options servicemen (and women) face was a real eye-opener. Even if you fight for the United States and defend her freedom, it doesn’t mean you can live here or call this land home. Episode grade A-.
