‘This Is Us’ episode 8 preview: ‘Pilgrim Rock,’ Thanksgiving, and Randall learns a secret

Tonight, “This Is Us” is airing an episode that will hopefully succeed in offering up yet another snapshot of a certain period in Jack and Rebecca’s life, and this is precisely what this show does so wonderfully: Give you small pieces of who people are that offer up chances for you to start to build the puzzle in your mind. By the end of the season, the hope is obviously that the puzzle pieces start to come together.

So what are we going to see on next week’s “Pilgrim Rock”? We’ve got a little bit more news about it right now!

Synopsis – “As Jack, Rebecca and the three kids make their way to Rebecca’s parents’ house for their traditional Thanksgiving holiday, an unforeseen detour occurs. Kate makes two drastic life-changing decisions. Kevin brings Olivia to Randall’s house for Thanksgiving. Randall’s heart is broken when he learns about a lifelong secret his mother has kept from him.”

All of this sounds somewhat intriguing, and our hope is that there will be some hopeful and happy notes in here. This is a show that has balanced comedy and drama throughout to a certain degree, and the last thing we want to see on a Thanksgiving-themed episode is one that is going to make us extremely depressed.

One thing we will say without seeing a promo for this episode (we’ll have that for you a little bit later) is kudos to NBC for thinking ahead with the scheduling here. Even though the show went off the air longer than usual because of the World Series and the election, they’ve still got this episode airing before we roll around to Turkey Day.

Promo – Bittersweet seems like the perfect way to describe what you get a chance to see here. There are some tender moments in here with Jack (mustache included) and his children embracing the holiday, but at the same time, there are also some tender ones that are coming up courtesy of Randall. Some key news is going to be passed along, and that could lead to tears.
