‘Supergirl’ season 2, episode 7 preview: Cyborg Superman arrives
Tonight, “Supergirl” season 2 is going to be introducing the new James Olsen alter ego of Guardian, there is going to be another new character surfacing on the show next week — and it’s absolutely one to be feared. Cyborg Superman was rumored almost from the pilot, given that you had Hank Henshaw as a cast member and in the comics, he eventually became the character. They’ve changed things up here in making him into the Martian Manhunter, but clearly, there was still time for this famed comic character to introduce himself.
Next week, “The Darkest Place” is going to be your opportunity to see a battle with Cyborg Superman front and center, and we have to wonder if this is going to be a battle that lasts for a significant stretch of time.
Synopsis – “While Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) tries to clear his name after being accused of a murder committed by another vigilante, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) heads out on a solo mission to rescue Mon-El (Chris Wood) who has been captured by CADMUS. While fighting to free Mon-El, Supergirl comes face to face with Cyborg Superman.”
If Cyborg Superman does end up becoming a sort of Big Bad for the season, odds are we’ll get a break in the action after “The Darkest Place” given what is coming up not too much further in the future after this: The four-part crossover. Most indications we’ve seen so far have Supergirl being recruited over to Earth-1 in order to help in the battle against the Dominators. Beyond that, we’re not sure if any other characters will be involved, but we certainly hope so.
As for the Guardian story, for the time being we’re going to consider it to be a superhero growing pain. Hopefully, we are going to see James figure this out, mostly because otherwise we have a hard time knowing who’s going to run CatCo!
Promo – Based on this promo, we’re starting to think that the real Hank Henshaw other than the one J’onn J’onzz has taken the form of is going to be Cyborg Superman — in other words, David Harewood could be a really busy guy!
