‘Westworld,’ ‘Divorce,’ ‘Insecure’ all renewed for season 2 by HBO
It’s been a mystery to some why HBO waited this long to renew “Westworld,” but there is no longer any reason to be concerned: The network announced on Monday that all of these shows are going to be coming back for more.
In a statement today, network programming head Casey Bloys confirmed that not only will the drama, starring Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, and Sir Anthony Hopkins, be back for another season, but that it will be joined by two other series in “Divorce” and “Insecure” that quickly have become viewer favorites to many. (Of the two, our preference is for “Insecure,” which we find incredibly funny and fresh.)
Here’s what Bloys had to say about bringing these shows back:
“I am thrilled to announce the pickup of our three fall series, all of which have distinctive, original voices … Critics and viewers alike have welcomed WESTWORLD and INSECURE, as well as the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to the network after 12 years with DIVORCE.”
We don’t think there was ever any serious discussion that “Westworld” was going to be canceled, so with that in mind the biggest benefit that probably comes out of renewing the show is that it stops the chatter — even if it’s just for the time being. The focus can now be entirely on the present instead of the future. It also helps to lock in these shows at a time where there is the potential for further flux elsewhere. “Vinyl” was canceled after an initial renewal, “Game of Thrones” will be ending with season 8, and “The Leftovers” is wrapping up its run at some point in the new year. The more stability HBO has, the better off they will eventually be.
