‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6, episode 8 video: One of the greatest (and saddest) sequences ever
We’ve got a new episode of “Once Upon a Time” airing on Sunday night, and if the latest sneak peek below is to be believed, this episode could be one of the most emotional that we’ve seen on the show in a rather-long time. It could also be one of the best.
Let’s start our analysis here by making it clear that we take no real pleasure in seeing Snow and Charming miserable. The two of them are in the midst of a new curse, one where they are doomed in one way or another to live their lives without each other. If Snow is asleep, Charming is awake; meanwhile, if he kisses her, the roles are reversed. The montage in the sneak peek paints this beautifully, and shows us precisely what it is that they’re doing in order to keep their love alive. He’s leaving her messages and buying her flowers. Meanwhile, she is recording messages to him.
This entire thing is very sweet, but not in a way that is sugary or overly sappy. The two aren’t lamenting their current fate, and you get the sense that they’re ready to take on just about any obstacle that lies before them so long as they are together on the other side. You gotta love the determination that we see here!
As for whether or not they’ll have this curse reversed in this one episode, we hope not — once again with the caveat that we don’t root for their misery. Our feeling is merely that if you alleviate the curse too soon, you almost create the sentiment that they weren’t ever in any significant danger, and that’s not the sort of impression you want to create.
