‘Hawaii Five-0’ boss comments on potential Alex O’Loughlin exit after season 8
Is the end almost here for Alex O’Loughlin on “Hawaii Five-0“? It’s something that’s been discussed a lot lately and it’s mostly because of O’Loughlin recently discussing the idea of him riding off into the sunset after season 8. Why would he be leaving the show? He said that the physical demands of playing McGarrett due to all of the various action sequences are taking a toll on his body and since McGarrett isn’t a character that’s going to take a desk job, he would probably leave Five-0 all together. So what does this mean for Hawaii Five-0 as a series if O’Loughlin leaves?
For the record, CBS is still in the process of letting season 7 play out, so there’s no word as of yet if they will even order an eighth season of the show (we are just hopeful that they will since it’s one of our favorites). What we do know is that executive producer Peter M. Lenkov isn’t planning on ending the show anytime soon, provided that there are still viewers out there that want to watch the show without McGarrett. Here’s what he had to say in a TV Guide article on the subject:
“As long as people are watching the show, we would keep going … If Alex elects not to come back, that’s obviously going to be his choice. But we’re moving forward as if the show’s going to keep going.”
Lenkov also made it clear that in his mind, the story between Catherine and McGarrett is not quite over, either, despite some comments to the contrary elsewhere:
“We’re not looking at it as being finished … It’s just a story we’re telling along the way. …. There’s fans of the show that either love [Catherine] or hate her, and they’re very vocal, both sides. But we always saw Catherine being a part of the entire arc of this franchise.”
We figure that Michelle Borth will be back at some point in the future, but for the time being, it doesn’t appear as though that “some point” is at any point in the next few episodes. While Catherine might be Steve’s endgame, we have seen him dating Lynn and there was a serious connection between him and Alicia at the beginning of the season that we would love to see explored.

I’m not sure if I will still watch or not; unless there would be episodes that would somehow involve Mcgarrett or refer to him, even if he does not physically appear; as was the case with Catherine several times. I didn’t even want to watch the show anymore until I came across Peter Lenkov’s tweets and statements regarding Catherine and Lynn. All I know is Hawaii Five-0 is about Steve McGarrett and McGarrett and Catherine belong together.

Yes I would still watch. Danno is the best actor of the two. However I do not see him pulling off steve’s stunts so maybe there is another Steve Mcgarrett out there on the family tree. there are defiantly many actors who could pull off the stunt work. Think Daniel Craig(007),Tom Cruise(to great for tv though),Christian Bale(batman),but really maybe Josh Hutcherson as a forgotten great nephew who just needs Danno’s tutelage? So wheres Alex going? Over to the island of LOST? Seems they keep popping up on 5-0. And bring the airplane back to the opening like the original 5-0!!!

I would still watch it. Whatever happened to his surprise brother Wo Fat? Played by Mark Dacascos? I would love to see him come back.

He can’t come back, Steve shot him in the head. He’s dead!

Nope, if he leaves the show won’t survive. And Setve with Cathrine proves that McGarrett is a wipped doormat for the manipulative women! It was also snarky of PL to suggest that Alex was positioning himself for mor money by saying he will leave after 8 seasons when he clearly said it was due to his health issues. Maybe that’s something PL would do but not Alex!

I just would like to point out that Peter has also stated in an interview that Lynn is not in Mcgarett’s future. and, although Alicia is confirmed to return in mid February, it won’t be a romantic one in any way. Thus, I believe that there is a real chance for Catherine to return this season; especially if Cbs decides not to renew the show, or McGarrett’s exit plan becomes definite. in fact, I think they may write Catherine back in gradually as the reason for McGarrett’s leaving the team.
