‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8, episode 4 video: The pain of Sybil’s sister

Sybil -

Given how much the majority of viewers for “The Vampire Diaries” seem to collectively hate the Sybil character, there is one thing we’d be willing to wager right now: The show seems to be doing its job. You want people to loathe your adversaries, and she’s giving you at the moment reasons aplenty to cast some scorn in her direction.

1. She’s not exactly letting Damon or Enzo off the hook — she’s got both firmly under her control right now, and doesn’t seem interested in changing things up at any point in the future.

2. She’s also getting ready to extend her torment to Stefan. He’s not letting go of his efforts to try to save his brother, but in the process of doing that, he is running the risk of having a wide array of terrible things happening to him.

3. She’s also got a sister, which is never great news given that we’ve already seen what she is capable of. Do you really need two of her out there? Our big concern for now is that said sister is the nanny, since that would be A) the sort of terrible convenience that tends to happen with these sort of shows and B) really unfortunate for Alaric, Caroline, and everyone else firmly involved in that storyline.

Ultimately, the real unfortunate news for all of these characters, based on the extended promo below, is that we don’t quite see Sybil departing this show anytime soon. She’s got many characters in her clutches at this point! The one thing to remain hopeful about here is mostly that this is a show that does have a tendency sometimes to be able to turn things around on a dime and kill off characters when you think that they are going to be involved in the story far longer than they are. There were multiple occasions in the first half of season 7 where we saw this happen.
