‘The Flash’ season 3: Expect Savitar ‘soon’; don’t expect Flashpoint course-correction
We heard before the start of the season that Savitar and Dr. Alchemy were going to be the two Big Bads for “The Flash” season 3, and yet, we only had a chance to see one of them over the course of the series so far.
Could that be changing soon? It does seem like it. Speaking (per Entertainment Weekly) while at EW PopFest, Grant Gustin made it clear that Savitar would be turning up “soon.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti, meanwhile, referred to the villain as the “god of motion” and arguably the most challenging villain Barry Allen has faced to dat on the series.
Berlanti also made one other thing clear in that there isn’t going to be a way to correct everything that happened as a result of Flashpoint. Therefore, expect these changes to all be permanent:
“I’m not sure that we can [return to the original timeline], given what we’ve established … If we’re not challenging ourselves and creating new territory and new obstacles for the characters, I think it’s less rewarding to watch and probably less rewarding to play. We like to grow ourselves and grow our characters.”
Sure, maybe this is a bummer to some of you who preferred Diggle to have a daughter or Cisco not being in mourning for so long, but at the same time, we like that not everything on this show can be quickly fixed. Creating consequences to time travel basically makes it so that the Legends don’t just come through and do Barry a solid to fix things in his past. He doesn’t want to run the risk of anything else going awry. (It’s not that Barry has asked them of this yet, but we do wonder what his message was to them at the end of this past “Legends of Tomorrow” episode.)
