‘Supergirl’ season 2 debate: Is President Olivia Marsdin really an alien?
The end of Monday night’s new episode of “Supergirl” is one that produced one of its first genuinely surprising moments of the season, given that we learned that President Olivia Marsdin (Lynda Carter) may be an alien. She had a moment with the red eyes that was similar to the Hank Henshaw – Martian Manhunter reveal from season 1, and given that much of her platform revolves around protecting aliens and opening up a path for them to become citizens, it makes some sense why the show would want to paint the story with such a brush.
Now that we’ve said all of this, we’ve got questions aplenty.
1. Is this really Olivia Marsdin anymore? – It’s possible that at some point in her life, the President was replaced with an alien shapeshifter similar to what happened to Hank; either way, it’s rather interesting that any alien would possess the skills necessary to understand humans enough to rule over them.
2. What sort of alien is she? – Given the similarities between her red eyes and what we saw from Hank, the easy assumption would be to label her a Martian. Yet, it seems a little odd that we would suddenly jump from one Martian remaining to three over the course of the episode, given that we just had the arrival of Miss Martian at the same time.
3. Could she be Wonder Woman? – Given that we are talking about Lynda Carter here, of course there’s a part of us that wants that to be true. Yet, in most comic incarnations Diana Prince is from Themyscira / Paradise Island, which seemingly eliminates that possibly. Yet, maybe the show could be changing things. At the very least, maybe there is an alternate universe where this character is an iteration of the hero. We know that there is a version of her over on Earth-2, as her name popped up on Barry Allen’s speed-dial over on The Flash.

I don’t think she can be WW, it wasn’t just the eyes, the skin of her face changed as well. I think she must be an alien with shape shifting abilities, a lot like those of Mars (the way her eyes and skin turned red was very similar), although I agree that going from one Martian to three in one episode is a bit of a stretch. I only hope she won’t turn out to be a vilain

You’re probably right, but there’s a big part of me that is hoping that she’s Wonder Woman – this would be a great show for that character.
