‘Supernatural’ season 12 spoilers: ‘Walking Dead’ favorite in as Castiel rival

It was first many weeks ago that it was mentioned that “Supernatural” season 12 would be big for the character of Castiel, in particular when it comes to him getting his own backstory and adventures. With all of this in mind, consider the latest casting news as some further proof of this very thing.

In a post on Twitter, Alicia Witt is coming over following a memorable part on “The Walking Dead” last season in order to play a particularly notable role. TVLine reports that this character is Lily Sunder, and she is a longtime rival of Misha Collins’ angel. There isn’t too much else know about her role, but this is a further indication that the show will have at least one Cas-centric episode coming sooner rather than later.

Now, the hope that we do have as we move forward is that the show continues the great run that they are on when it comes to guest casting. First, the series managed to get Rick Springfield on board, which we think is particularly notable given his place in rock music royalty. To follow this up with Witt is a nice testament to the casting department. This is coming many months after we had a wonderful return of Mark Pellegrino, a guy whose profile surged in the years that followed his initial appearances on the show.

New episodes of “Supernatural” are going to continue airing on The CW Thursday night. Hopefully, we will continue to see this story pick up steam and we’ll continue to have some great character stories. So long as this happens and the focus remains on the characters, we feel like we’re going to be thrilled. You don’t need the show to be epic in order to stand out; we don’t mean this as a slam on last season so much as a sentiment that it is nice that the show is giving us such a change of pace.
