‘Saturday Night Live’ to air debate special night before Presidential election; expect Alec Baldiwn – Kate McKinnon highlights

If you want evidence that “Saturday Night Live” is having itself a heck of a year at present, you don’t have to look any further than the ratings. The show is in the midst right now of an eight-year high, and with the series performing so well, why in the world would Lorne Michaels and NBC not want to take advantage of just about every opportunity possible in order to milk the show for all they can?

This is why we are not surprised that today, the network confirmed that on Monday, November 7 (i.e. one day before the election), there is going to be an “SNL” special entitled “The 2016 SNL Election Special.” The purpose of this seems to be in order to produce what is effectively a highlight reel of everything that the series has done right over the course of the past year or so, and show the journey of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to election night. We’ll have a chance to see some notable highlights and lowlights from each candidate through the unique “SNL” lens.

While we are rather excited to see all of this play out, one thing that you do need to remember in the process here is that we’re not seeing a new episode here. This seems meant to be more of a compilation of past sketches we’ve seen over the past several months. We expect plenty of Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as played by Kate McKinnon; maybe there will be some more footage filmed for it, but nothing is known about that at present and with that in mind, we don’t have a lot of confidence that anything is going down.

This news is coming days after it was announced that “Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” star Benedict Cumberbatch will host the November 5 outing for the show.
