‘The Walking Dead’ season 7 video: Jeffrey Dean Morgan talks playing Negan
With the premiere of “The Walking Dead” season 7 coming to AMC on Sunday night, there’s a lot of craziness on the horizon. There’s going to be blood, gore, and probably a higher degree of fear than what we’ve seen on the show in some time, and a whole lot of it is because of a certain someone in Negan.
While we know Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s done some interviews here and there already setting up the story for the first half of the season, the video below via the network’s official YouTube is a nice little snapshot into what it is like for him to play this particular adversary, and also precisely how much he loves it. For Morgan, this is a rather refreshing change of pace from virtually everything else that he’s done over the years, playing characters who are considered in some way to be nice guys. He knows that Negan is hated, and it certainly seems as though he’s ready and willing to embrace that.
Also, he makes it clear that much of the trauma that these characters go through is going to come about as a result of this character and what he does. Obviously, in many ways this is scary, and it really should be. Yet, at the same time it’s also exciting. How many opportunities do you have to get a villain of this magnitude on the show?
One other thing that does personally excite us about this is that by and large, most of the season is still a mystery. So much attention from us and elsewhere has been placed (understandably so) on Negan’s story and Morgan’s character; as a result of that, there is a lot of mystery looking further into the future.
