‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: James Olsen becoming vigilante Guardian
The second season of “Supergirl” on Monday delivered what has to be considered a pretty monumental shift to the relationship of Jimmy Olsen and Kara Danvers, as the two opted to eliminate the romance from their lives for the time being. Apparently, that is only one of many changes for the Mehcad Brooks’ character over the course of this season.
Speaking (per TVLine) while at a recent press screening, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that James is going to start to take a page from the Oliver Queen playbook in the city, and become a crime-fighting vigilante in the streets of National City. The problem is that he’s not going to be so keen on telling Kara about it in advance:
“James is going to decide that he can no longer be a sidekick, so he’s going to become a vigilante. He’s going to become Guardian, complete with the shield, which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara because he decides not to tell her. There’s this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes. … And he’s recruited Winn to help him. Winn is his man in the van. Winn and James together is like comedy gold.”
We do certainly agree with the latter part of Kreisberg’s statement, and this gives something fun for James to do that is independent of most other people in the cast, which is always exciting. He also told reporters that in terms of the romantic relationship, they were “pursuing [it] more because we felt like we had to than any of us was really truly feeling it … We realized the best scenes between them were the nice, sweet scenes where they were being friends.” Maybe they’ll have another shot at that down the road; we’ll have to just wait to see what unfolds.
