HBO’s ‘Divorce’ episode 2 preview: What lies ahead for Sarah Jessica Parker, cast

Tonight, HBO aired the series premiere for a much-anticipated show in “Divorce,” which marks the return of Sarah Jessica Parker to series form. It was a show that had great potential and still does, but at the same time much of the comedy was a thin layer surrounded on almost every side by drama. It was challenging to watch at times, in particular because much of the subject matter was very depressing and at times all too real for people out there. The struggle for this show could be finding the comedy within reality, and making it appealing even when it is hard.

Based on what we are seeing at present about the second episode airing next week, all signs point to the show not really wasting too much time picking up where it left off in the premiere. There will not be much in the way of a time jump at all.

Synopsis – “Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) rushes to intercept Robert (Thomas Haden Church) before he tells the kids that she’s divorcing him. Everyone gathers at the hospital to support Diane (Molly Shannon) as she waits for news on Nick’s (Tracy Letts) condition. In the midst of the chaos, Frances considers finally signing a lease to open her long-planned art gallery.”

If you recall, Robert has the upper hand right now in the divorce battle in that he locked Frances out of the house after discovering her affair with Julian. At the same time, he acted in such a way that was out of extreme anger, and there may be a way for her to be able to find some leverage within that. Eventually, he has to calm down … right? Moving forward, that has to be at least a certain degree of hope.
