‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: What to expect from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Twenty One Pilots
There is another new episode of “Saturday Night Live” coming up tonight, and based on what we’ve seen of host Lin-Manuel Miranda so far, we have expectations that this will be at the very least reasonably funny.
What this episode is bringing to the table first and foremost is a host capable of handling live environments. This is hardly Lin-Manuel’s first rodeo in New York, and he is beloved there by most. Therefore, he’ll have an audience tonight that is warm, receptive to him, and ready to lap up everything that he brings to the table. It also helps that he is genuinely funny as a performer and won’t have to pander much when it comes “Hamilton” or anything else in order to get laughs.
As for musical guest Twenty One Pilots, we have almost no expectations whatsoever given that we’ve never seen them perform before. They have some hits, but we’re starting to get to the age where we don’t quite know what it is the “kids” are digging anymore.
Content-wise, the one thing we do expect for sure is an extremely-quick turnaround to some of the Donald Trump comments unveiled on Friday in a Washington Post story. Given the over-the-top manner in which the show has already portrayed him via Alec Baldwin in the premiere, we imagine Lorne Michaels is going to want to milk this every second that he can. Also, is he really going to want to spend a ton of this show dealing with Mike Pence and Tim Kaine? These two are technically Vice-Presidential contenders, but they have to be two of the more boring ones in recent memory.
Lin-Manuel’s episode is just one reason to be excited if you are an “SNL” fan. After all, the show just announced that Tom Hanks will be coming back to host! Be sure to head over here to get more details on when that will air. (Photo: NBC.)
