‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6, episode 2 spoilers: The Belle – Rumpelstiltskin struggle

During the sixth-season premiere of “Once Upon a Time” on Sunday night, one of the biggest things that we had a chance to see was a further dissolution of the relationship between Belle and Rumpelstiltskin. There was a time when these two were in a reasonably good place, but that ended long ago with his lies. Things went to such levels during the premieres that Rumple’s own child from the future, through Belle’s dreamworld, warned him to stay as far away from her as possible. If that’s not completely out-there, we don’t quite know what is.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite seem as though anything will be getting better in the near future for these two characters. Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Edward Kitsis passed along the following teaser for what could be ahead:

“Belle really is in a place where she’s given up on Rumple, but they have a child, so that makes things messier … Once a child is involved, you actually have to put aside your own feelings and put the child first no matter how much you hate the other person. That is going to be tested.”

Does she still care about him? We think that the answer there is very clearly “yes,” but at the same time it’s really quite hard to be all that focused on that when there are so many other priorities out there that have to be attended to. She loves her baby more potentially than anything in the world, and doing right by them is going to remain high on her personal priority list.
