‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4, episode 2 review: Ghost Rider vs. Daisy; May’s condition suffers

There are some shows out there that tend to start things slowly when it comes to storylines in a season. Clearly, “Agents of SHIELD” was not one of those shows. Over the course of the second hour of the season we saw Ghost Rider wreck havoc, Daisy make some key decisions, May go unhinged, and learn a thing or two about the new Director.

Let’s start things off with this: Who knew that the new Director was going to be an Inhuman? We really did enjoy the idea of Jason O’Mara on the show before, but we love it now, especially since it adds so much more complexity with the idea of SHIELD being a public organization. We’re not nearly as bit of a fan of him neutralizing May, but given her hallucinations and her attacks, we understand where he’s coming from until someone conjures up a cure.

The problem for Coulson here is that he’s not being altogether forthcoming when it comes to the plans for his position, especially when it comes to how to deal with May. He told Phil his plans for her were “confidential,” and we saw her in some sort of straightjacket near the end of the episode.

While the Director continued to deal with this problem in his own way tonight, Daisy was forced to try and wrangle Ghost Rider — and that didn’t go too well. He’s still alive and out there, and to make matters more interesting, Daisy is starting to at least understand his vantage point. He’s basically Dexter Morgan with the Spirit of Vengeance. He takes out people who do bad things, even if he does so in a really terrifying way.

The episode ended with Daisy getting an offer from Robbie to join him on a little journey for answers, and that’s our cliffhanger. That’s a pretty exciting one, no? Two episodes in, and we gotta say that the show is feeling solid. Episode Grade: B+.
