‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’ episode 3 preview: The nightmare lives on
After two episodes, “American Horror Story: Roanoke” can still proclaim itself to be genuinely scary again, and it’s been a long time since this franchise could say that. Specifically, we’d argue that “Asylum” was the last time the show made us jump, and this time around we’d say that there are many scenes that have done that. Take, for example, what was going on with the hospital.
Next week’s episode seems to pick up precisely where this past one left off, at least in terms of Lee trying to uncover the whereabouts of her child while Shelby and Matt contend with the sudden horrors that seem to be surrounding them. What if they arrive in a position where they can’t leave? With Lee’s child gone, at least Matt has an incentive to not high-tail it out of there, which is something that we assumed would have happened a long time ago.
There are still many mysteries as to why these two are being targeted, and also where we are going with this whole “My Roanoke Nightmare” show. For the time being, it feels easy to label this show-within-a-show concept something that’s going to last the entire season, but we’re doing our best to pay close attention. This is “American Horror Story.” In other words, this is not a show that has any investment in keeping one thing stable from start to finish.
