‘Ray Donovan’ season 5: Premiere date speculation, hopes for Showtime drama
Tonight could be a particularly big night for “Ray Donovan” in a variety of different ways. First of all, we’ve got a finale that could feature Ray doing what he can to “protect the family,” not realizing that the best thing that he could probably do to protect them is pull a Dexter Morgan and go off the grid as a lumberjack. Hey, he wouldn’t be in the thick of it anymore! Granted, if that happens we can only imagine the protests outside of Showtime’s offices. Instead, the more likely scenario is that he’s going to get himself in any more danger.
Another thing of note tonight is that both Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight are up for Emmys, and given that Hank Azaria was just awarded one for his own guest role, they each have a slight shot of winning. The main irony here is that their award for Actor in a Drama Series could ironically be handed out right in the middle of tonight’s episode.
The series has been renewed already by Showtime for season 5, so rest assured that tonight’s season finale will also not double as a series finale. There will be more of the series down the road! While this network does tend to shift around premiere dates here and there, we do think it will be back once more in the summer (think late June or early July). This is a time that has been commercially successful for the series in the past; why change it?
Now, we have to wait to see what happens with the story moving forward.
