‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: Tracy Morgan timing and Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet
We don’t quite think it is a coincidence that you are getting the Tracy Morgan-hosted episode of “Saturday Night Live” on repeat this weekend. At the time in which NBC likely scheduled this episode, they did so hoping that the comedian’s show would allow him to earn a Primetime Emmy Award. While he got the nomination, he ultimately didn’t get over the award.
Nonetheless, we do think you can still get a lot of enjoyment out of watching Tracy tonight, if for no other reason than to potentially see how the Television Academy may have missed the mark.
To be honest, we’re not going to say that Tracy’s show as a whole was the best work he’s ever done on “SNL,” since we do think many of his signature sketches played so much better many years ago. Yet, at the same time he does still bring a lot to the table, and there is a lot of joy sometimes in nostalgia.
With that, we bring you below his reprisal of Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet, a sketch worth watching again even if you don’t sit down to watch the full show. One of the biggest joys that comes out of this for us, beyond of course seeing the animals, is seeing Tracy deliver on some of the non-sequiters. Not only that, but the camel stepping in front of the camera creates a great moment when Brian gets upset at it for being in the way. We think this is probably a line that Tracy came up with on the spot, but it totally delivered and it was completely appropriate for his character to get angry in that sort of setting.
