‘The Walking Dead’ season 7 video: It’s Negan’s way or the highway

At the moment, we certainly do feel for AMC’s marketing department as they try to figure out the right ways to promote “The Walking Dead” for the upcoming seventh season. In past years, it has felt as though the strategy was pretty simple: Throw as many different famous characters into the trailers as possible. They’re the reason many people watch the show, so this strategy certainly felt on the surface to be both simple and smart.

Unfortunately, AMC really can’t executive that strategy for the seventh season, mostly because of the fact that the majority of their characters have their lives in jeopardy at the moment. They have to figure out some other way to promote the show, which is why a very high percentage of this new promo is Negan. Other than people like Carol who weren’t present for that now-infamous scene in the finale, you can’t show anyone else without giving the ending of that story away.

At least this promo still feels fairly epic even if there are not a high number of familiar faces in here. Instead, it is more about Negan’s philosophy, and how many of the characters on the show are going to struggle against the stranglehold that he has. Sure, Negan is a very powerful character on his own, but there’s also one other important element that he has that cannot be overlooked: Influence. He can convince so many other important people to do his bidding.

The new season of “The Walking Dead” will premiere on AMC next month. Saying that this is going to be epic at this point feels akin to a gross understatement.
