‘The Great British Bake Off’ loses hosts Sue Perkins, Mel Giedroyc over production move

Who ever knew that “The Great British Bake Off” would get so messy away from the subject matter? It’s crazy, but that is precisely what we are looking at now.

The basic way to summarize the issue here is that Love Productions, the company behind the show, ultimately could not reach an agreement with the BBC in order to order another season of the smash hit series. This is an ad-free, publicly-funded network, and as a result of that, their resources are a tad more limited than they are elsewhere. In turn, the production company has turned to Channel 4 in order to make a lucrative new deal.

So what has happened now is that the show has lost hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, who made their intentions of departing the series more than clear in a new statement:

“The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of 2 million to nearly 15 at its peak. We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps. We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”

We feel for fans who like the show that there is so much change, but we’re not surprised about the latest BBC breakdown given the departure recently of “The Voice UK” over to ITV. We would like to see this changed around of course, given that we think that certain series are better off staying on their iconic home and there is something about the BBC that brings history and magnitude to the table.
