‘Tyrant’ canceled at FX; season 4 possibilities dim after tonight’s finale

This is probably not the news that many fans of “Tyrant” wanted to hear going into Wednesday night’s finale: This episode could also serve as the end of the series.

Today, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf made it clear that FX is canceling the show following the finale tonight, and he did his best to offer up all of his support to those who worked behind the scenes on the show:

“The creators of Tyrant have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today. We want to thank Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on Tyrant’s tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”

Meanwhile, Fox 21 is still not giving up hope for the series’ future just yet, as they are going to do their part in order to look for a separate home for the show. However, it’s not entirely clear what the market will be. The ratings are not tremendous, but the following is loyal and there could be someone out there who looks to emphasize quality more so than anything. What we find interesting here mostly is that this is one of those rare cases of a network and a studio, despite sharing a parent company, not having complete congruence with one another. Then again, it’s nice to see the studio continuing to fight to find a new home for a show that they certainly seem to believe in. That’s not something that you tend to see all of the time for other series that are out there.
