Could a ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 8 happen someday?

Let’s start this particular “Rizzoli & Isles” article with the bare-bones truth: Monday night marks the series finale for the show. It’s not some possible finale that leaves things open for the future; this was created with the intention of it being the last time we see Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles on TV. It is meant to tie up loose ends, and pay tribute to these characters we’ve come to love over the years.

Now that we’ve said that, let’s go ahead and ask another key question: Is there really a chance that we could see something further for these characters someday? Could there be some sort of revival?

At present, we don’t think the intention is to come back and do something else down the road, and that makes sense. This show has been a full-time job for the cast and crew for over half a decade, and when you consider the sort of hours that go into making something like this, it makes some sense that everyone would want to try other things. We saw Sasha Alexander do an arc on “Shameless,” and it’s possible that she and Angie Harmon could continue to want to take on some other roles. Part of the reason to become an actor is to engage in some wild creativity, playing a wide array of different people.

Now that we’ve said that, we always take a never-say-never philosophy when it comes to procedural shows that aren’t ending the series by killing someone off / doing something as abstract as “Lost” where it’s hard to move forward. We think that the ending will probably at least leave it open for the show to do something in the future provided that there is an interest in all parties getting back together. One of the luxuries with the series ending while still popular is that there could be a further demand down the road. Let’s revisit this discussion a few years down the road, and see where where are then.
