Comedy Central head defends treatment of Ann Coulter at Roast of Rob Lowe
There are so many things that were odd about the inclusion of Ann Coulter on the Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe. For one, she’s Ann Coulter! She’s not exactly someone who is affiliated with Hollywood or the actor, and she’s also someone who doesn’t really have much of a reason to sign up for one of these beyond a promotional tour for an upcoming book.
Yet, she was a part of it, and all indications are that she was completely destroyed by many of the people on the dais. We don’t like to spoil jokes in advance since that ruins the fun, but we know from Coulter herself wasn’t thrilled with her appearance based on what she said to The Hollywood Reporter recently.
However, was she really targeted more so than anyone else? There have certainly been some claims of that here and there, but speaking per the Daily Beast, Comedy Central president Kent Alterman refuted those claims be reminding us that this is kinda the point of a roast — and if you’re going to appear on one of these things, you better be prepared for it to be brutal, especially if you are an easy target in the first place:
“Everyone is a target at the roasts so she wasn’t singled out in that regard … Every single roaster comes up and roasts everyone who’s up on the dais.”
The Roastmaster General Jeff Ross appeared on “Conan” this week promoting the roast, and he detailed what it was like being up there with Coulter — and also how there was one time in which he got her to laugh.
